Microsoft Syntex Pricing for Invoice Processing, SharePoint Premium Cost Per Page

Short answer: Microsoft Syntex, sold for a while as SharePoint Premium and now documented as document processing for Microsoft 365, is pay as you go only. The prebuilt invoice model costs $0.01 per page ($10 per 1,000 pages), a custom structured or freeform model costs $0.05 per page, and an unstructured model costs $0.005 per page. Billing runs through an Azure subscription linked to your Microsoft 365 tenant. Per-user Syntex licenses are no longer sold, and the free monthly capacity Microsoft included ended in June 2026.

That makes Syntex one of the cheapest meters for reading invoices inside SharePoint. It is also easy to misjudge, because the page count on the bill is not the page count in your inbox. Microsoft Syntex pricing in 2026, every document meter

Several pages that still rank for this search quote $0.05 per page for unstructured processing. That was the old rate. Microsoft's pricing page now lists $0.005, a tenth of it. The prebuilt rate of $0.01 has held, and it matches the Azure Document Intelligence prebuilt invoice model at $10 per 1,000 pages, which is no coincidence: the SharePoint prebuilt models run on the same Azure document engine. How much does Syntex cost for invoice processing?

For a typical US AP team the meter is small. At 3,000 vendor invoices a month averaging 1.4 pages, you process 4,200 pages. With one prebuilt invoice model on the library that is $42 a month. If the layouts are too varied and you train a structured or freeform model instead, the same volume costs $210 a month. At 20,000 invoices a month the numbers become $280 and $1,400.

Those figures assume every page is processed once by one model. In practice, three rules in Microsoft's billing notes push the count up.

• Every model on the library bills separately. Microsoft's own example: two models applied to a library and one five-page document uploaded equals 10 billed pages. Teams often stack a classifier-style model and an extractor, or a prebuilt invoice model and a custom one for a few awkward vendors.
• Updates reprocess the file. Processing runs on upload and again on subsequent updates. If staff replace a scan, add pages or re-save a document in the library, you pay again.
• You pay even when nothing is found. Pages are charged whether or not the model classifies the file or extracts any fields. Remittance stubs, terms pages and cover sheets cost the same as the invoice page.

A realistic multiplier is 1.5x to 2.5x the raw page count for a library that is edited and has two models. That still leaves the prebuilt path under $100 a month for most mid-sized teams.

Is SharePoint Premium still sold per user?

No. Microsoft's licensing page says per-user licenses for these services are no longer available to buy. Existing per-user licenses can still be assigned until they expire, and after that you have to move to pay as you go. The one exception is Government Community Cloud: GCC tenants cannot use pay as you go yet, so they keep buying per-user licenses until it arrives. Pay as you go needs an active Azure subscription connected in the Microsoft 365 admin center, and then any user with a Microsoft 365 license can use the services.

Two older promotions no longer apply. The free monthly capacity Microsoft granted to pay-as-you-go tenants ran through June 2026. And the structured and freeform meter used to draw down AI Builder credits first, but Microsoft announced a progressive end of AI Builder credits in October 2025, so plan on paying the $0.05 meter directly. What the Syntex invoice model actually returns

The prebuilt invoice model extracts key fields such as customer name, billing address, due date and amount due. You pick the extractors you want from a sample file, and each one becomes a column on the SharePoint document library. The extracted value is written into that column for every invoice you upload.

That design is excellent for filing, search and approvals inside SharePoint. It is awkward for accounts payable data entry, for two reasons. A library column holds one value per file, so a 30-line invoice does not arrive as 30 rows you can post to the ledger. Microsoft Syntex vs AI Builder vs a flat invoice extractor

On the meter alone, Syntex prebuilt wins, and we would not pretend otherwise. If your goal is to tag and route invoices inside SharePoint with header fields as metadata, it is the cheapest sensible option and you already own the platform. The comparison changes when the deliverable is ledger-ready data.
