Short answer: for invoice fields, Reducto Extract costs $20 per 1,000 pages ($16 through its batch queue) and Extend costs $15 per 1,000 pages in Light mode or $62.50 in Performance mode on Pay As You Go. Reducto's heavier Deep Extract is $40. So Extend Light is the cheapest of the four, Extend Performance is the most expensive, and the right pick depends on how many of your invoices are scans. If nobody on your team writes code, both are the smaller part of the bill.

Extend and Reducto are the two document APIs AP and engineering leads most often shortlist together in 2026. Both parse, split, classify and extract. Both publish a comparison page that says they win. Neither page prices a plain vendor invoice, which is what most US finance teams actually want to run. This article does that, using each vendor's own rate card. You can upload a sample invoice at the top of this page to see a finished extraction while you read.

How Extend and Reducto charge

The two companies meter in different units, which is why side-by-side comparisons go wrong.

Reducto moved to per-product rates on September 1, 2026. Each product has a price per 1,000 pages, and Extract includes the parsing step in that price. Older articles that quote $0.015 per credit and a 2x agentic multiplier describe the previous model.

Extend bills in credits. Pay As You Go costs $0.0125 per credit after 10,000 free credits, and the $500 a month Scale plan includes 50,000 credits and drops extra credits to $0.01. The detail that trips people up: Parse runs automatically before Extract, and Extend's documentation says the all-in cost per page is the operation plus its parse. Performance Extract is listed at 3 credits a page, but it bills 5. Light Extract is 0.7 plus 0.5, so 1.2 credits.

Which is cheaper, Extend or Reducto?

Extend is cheaper if Light mode is accurate enough on your invoices, and Reducto is cheaper if you need the heavy mode. Light Extract at $15 per 1,000 pages undercuts Reducto Extract at $20. At the top end, Reducto Deep Extract at $40 is well below Extend Performance Extract at $50 on Scale or $62.50 on Pay As You Go.

That makes the real question a quality question: which mode does a given invoice need? Clean, born-digital PDFs from large suppliers are the easy case, and both light options will usually handle the header fields. Scanned bills, phone photos, faxed freight invoices and long line-item tables are where the heavy modes earn their price. Extend's own guidance is to mix modes, Performance for scanned pages and Light for clean ones, which is sensible but means you are building the routing logic too.

What does each cost at real AP volumes?

Here is the monthly bill for three common workloads, assuming one-page invoices, no splitting and no review surcharges. Multi-page invoices raise every number in proportion, because both vendors meter pages, not documents.

Invoice pages / monthExtend Light (PAYG)Reducto ExtractReducto Deep ExtractExtend Performance (best plan)
2,000$30$40$80$125 (PAYG)
10,000$150$200$400$500 (Scale)
50,000$750$1,000$2,000$2,500 (Scale)

Two break points are worth knowing. Extend Scale only pays off above 8,000 Performance pages a month, since below that the $500 fee is more than Pay As You Go would cost. Reducto's batch queue takes 20% off Extract and Deep Extract, so an overnight backfill of 50,000 pages drops from $1,000 to $800 on Extract.

Is Extend or Reducto better for invoices?

For accuracy, nobody has published an independent head-to-head on invoices. Extend cites its own benchmark in which its parser leads Reducto, and Reducto's comparison page makes the opposite case. Treat both as marketing and test on 50 to 100 of your own invoices, weighted toward your worst vendors.

On features the split is clearer. Extend leans into workflow: Studio, evals, a review agent, human-in-the-loop screens and workflows are included on every plan, which suits teams that want a configurable pipeline with less custom code. Reducto leans into parsing depth and scale: the r-1 parser, a batch discount, up to 200 concurrent pages on its standard plan and VPC or on-prem deployment on Enterprise. If the same system will also read loan packets, contracts or claims, both are reasonable, and for lending documents in particular a purpose-built loan document analysis tool often saves the build altogether.

Which one signs a BAA for HIPAA?

Neither does on its entry plan. Extend offers the Business Associate Agreement as an add-on on the $500 a month Scale plan and includes it on Enterprise. Reducto lists the BAA and its Zero Data Retention agreement on Growth, which is custom priced. A US team processing medical invoices or patient billing should budget for a sales conversation with either vendor before any PHI goes through the API.

The cost neither rate card shows

Both products return JSON to an application you build. For an AP team, that application is most of the project: an upload screen or inbox watcher, a schema that covers header fields and line items, a review queue for low-confidence values, duplicate and vendor checks, GL coding, and an export into QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Xero or a spreadsheet. Then someone maintains it every time a supplier redesigns its invoice.

At 2,000 invoice pages a month the API bill on either vendor is $30 to $125. A few days of a developer's time costs more than a year of that. This is why the cheapest option on the table is often not an API at all.

When a finished invoice tool beats both

If the goal is vendor bills in Excel, CSV or your accounting system, and your team is finance rather than engineering, a finished tool is usually the better buy. InvoiceExtractor reads the header and every line item, shows the result for review, and exports Excel, CSV or JSON without an API key or a schema. Plans start at $49 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly, for 2,500 pages, and batch upload handles a month-end stack in one go. Developers who still want an endpoint can use the invoice data extraction API, and the invoice line item extraction page shows how full line tables come through.

Pick Extend if you are building a document product with many document types and want workflow tooling included. Pick Reducto if parsing depth, batch pricing or on-prem deployment drive the decision. Pick a finished invoice tool if you just need invoices processed this month. If you are still comparing APIs, our Reducto alternatives for invoice extraction prices six options side by side, including AWS Textract and Azure Document Intelligence at $10 per 1,000 pages.

Frequently asked questions

Is Extend cheaper than Reducto?

In Light mode, yes. Extend Light Extract costs $15 per 1,000 pages on Pay As You Go against $20 for Reducto Extract. In Performance mode, no. Extend Performance Extract costs $62.50 per 1,000 pages on Pay As You Go, or $50 on Scale, which is more than Reducto Deep Extract at $40.

Why does Extend Extract cost 5 credits instead of 3?

Because Parse runs automatically before Extract and is billed separately. Extend's documentation states that the all-in cost per page is the operation plus its parse: 3 credits for Performance Extract plus 2 for Performance Parse. Reducto, by contrast, includes parsing in its Extract price.

Do Extend and Reducto have free tiers?

Both give new accounts free usage rather than a permanent free plan. Extend includes 10,000 free credits, about 2,000 pages of Performance Extract. Reducto's Standard plan starts with $150 of usage, about 7,500 pages of Extract. Both are enough for a real pilot on your own invoices.

How much does it cost to extract 10,000 invoices a month with Extend or Reducto?

For one-page invoices, $150 on Extend Light, $200 on Reducto Extract, $400 on Reducto Deep Extract and $500 on Extend Performance with the Scale plan. Add development and maintenance for the review and export steps, which neither price includes.
